Root Canal Treatment

Smiles by Bond offers root canal treatment in West Seattle, WA

Root Canal Treatment may be needed if there has been some type of trauma to your tooth, the tooth has become abscessed or infected or if there is severe gum disease causing infection.  A root canal is a good way to help save a tooth, rather than having it extracted.  An evaluation and x-ray will help determine if root canal therapy is recommended.  Sometimes, antibiotics are recommended prior to treating your tooth or after the procedure.  A root canal may take several visits.  During your visit, anesthetic is provided and the tooth may be isolated with a rubber dam.  The tooth is cleaned out and the diseased pulp and nerve are removed.  In most cases, the pulp chamber is permanently filled and sealed.  A temporary filling may be placed in the access hole.  Normally a crown is recommended to fully restore the tooth or, sometimes a composite filling can be placed to restore the tooth.  After root canal treatment, a tooth can be more brittle and is susceptible to fracturing if left unrestored.  If left completely untreated, abscessed teeth can become extremely painful and the jaw and face can become swollen.
